One of the 500 RHD coupes BMW UK imported.

The CSL was developed by Jochem Neerspach of BMW to Homologate the Batmobiles. BMW had to build over 1000 road going versions in order to compete in what is now the Touring Car Championship. Neerspach conceived a lighter version of the E9 coupe, by pressing the car in thinner gauge steel and using aluminium on Boot, Bonnet and doors. The aero add-ons then knocked 14 seconds off the lap time and BMW went on to win the championship from The Ford Capris for several years running.

BMW UK ordered 500 right hand drive cars for the UK market, But as they were selling for £7,700-00 in 1972, had more luxury accessories added, including chrome bumpers, chrome wheel arch trims, electric windows and more.
